The B-52 is a layered cocktail made with Kahlúa, Baileys Irish Cream and Grand Marnier.
The three liqueurs are usually poured carefully so that their different densities form visible layers. Kahlúa, the coffee liqueur, goes on the bottom; Baileys forms the middle layer; and Grand Marnier, an orange liqueur, sits on top.
The cocktail became popular in the late 20th century, although its exact origin is disputed. It is commonly linked to bartender Peter Fich in Alberta, Canada, and is named after the Boeing B-52 Stratofortress bomber.
A B-52 is often served as a shooter, but it can also be prepared as a small layered cocktail. It should not be confused with a Mudslide, which is a creamy blended or shaken drink rather than a three-layer liqueur presentation.
