Which cocktail combines vodka, coffee liqueur and cream?

The story behind the answer

The White Russian cocktail combines vodka, coffee liqueur and cream.

The drink is a cream-topped variation of the Black Russian, which contains vodka and coffee liqueur but no dairy. Despite its name, the White Russian is not a traditional Russian national drink; the name refers to vodka’s association with Russia and distinguishes the pale version from its darker predecessor.

The White Russian became especially famous after appearing prominently in the 1998 film The Big Lebowski, where the protagonist calls it a “Caucasian.” That nickname is informal rather than the standard cocktail name. The drink is commonly built over ice in an old-fashioned glass, with cream floated or stirred into the other ingredients. A Mudslide is usually richer and often includes Irish cream, making it a related but distinct drink.
