Coca-Cola Zero was introduced in 2005 as a no-calorie cola using both aspartame and acesulfame potassium.
The product was designed to offer a taste profile closer to Coca-Cola while remaining distinct from Diet Coke. Its original name was Coca-Cola Zero, and the branding focused on the idea of zero calories rather than the word “diet.”
In 2016, the beverage was reformulated and renamed Coca-Cola Zero Sugar in many markets. The newer name made its no-sugar positioning more explicit, but Coca-Cola Zero remains the historical name associated with its 2005 launch.
This product should not be confused with New Coke, the 1985 reformulation of Coca-Cola, or Coca-Cola Life, which used a blend involving stevia and sugar.
