Arsenal hosted the opening match of the 2026–27 Premier League season.
The defending champions began their title defence at home against Coventry City on Friday 21 August 2026. The match was played at the Emirates Stadium in London and served as the season’s curtain-raiser. Coventry had just returned to the Premier League after winning promotion from the Championship.
Arsenal’s selection for the opening fixture reflected the league’s traditional practice of placing the reigning champion in a prominent early match. The fixture also paired the previous season’s Premier League champions with the Championship winners, creating a meeting between the top two English divisions’ recent title holders. Arsenal won the game 3–0.
