Which club hosted the first official Ryder Cup in 1927?

The story behind the answer

Worcester Country Club hosted the first official Ryder Cup in 1927.

The inaugural Ryder Cup Matches were held on June 3–4, 1927, at Worcester Country Club in Worcester, Massachusetts. The United States team, captained by Walter Hagen, faced Great Britain under Ted Ray. The Americans won the first competition 9½–2½ in the official scoring record.

The original format consisted of four foursomes matches on the opening day and eight singles matches on the second day. Each match was worth one point, with halved matches worth half a point. Samuel Ryder, whose name the competition carries, could not attend because of ill health.

The event is often confused with later Ryder Cup venues such as The Belfry or Medinah Country Club. Worcester was the beginning of the biennial team competition, although the event was not played in 1928 and later became associated with regular transatlantic contests. The club also hosted the 1925 U.S. Open and the 1960 U.S. Women’s Open.
