Which city was captured by Suleiman the Magnificent in 1521?

The story behind the answer

Suleiman the Magnificent captured Belgrade in 1521 after the Ottoman siege of the city. The fortress was one of the most important defenses on the Danube and a major obstacle to Ottoman expansion into the Kingdom of Hungary.

Suleiman launched the campaign soon after becoming sultan in 1520. Ottoman forces first took Šabac and Zemun, then concentrated on Belgrade. The Hungarian kingdom was politically divided and struggled to assemble an effective relief force. After weeks of bombardment and assaults, the defenders surrendered on 29 August 1521, and Belgrade became an Ottoman stronghold.

The conquest opened the route toward central Hungary, though it did not immediately end Hungarian resistance. Five years later, the Ottoman victory at Mohács dramatically weakened the Hungarian kingdom. Belgrade remained under Ottoman rule until 1688, when Austrian forces captured it. The city is sometimes confused with Rhodes, which Suleiman conquered in 1522, or Vienna, which he besieged unsuccessfully in 1529 and again during the 1532 campaign.
