Which city is the headquarters of the Assassins in Assassin's Creed II?

The story behind the answer

Monteriggioni is the Assassin headquarters in Assassin's Creed II.

Ezio Auditore uses Villa Auditore in the Tuscan town of Monteriggioni as a home base. The villa is managed by his uncle Mario, who helps him after the destruction of Ezio's family and introduces him to the Assassin cause.

Players can renovate the town and its facilities, turning Monteriggioni into a source of income and a visible symbol of the Auditore family's recovery. The location also serves as a recurring transition point between missions.

Monteriggioni is not the same as Venice, another major city in Assassin's Creed II. Masyaf is associated with Altaïr and the earlier Assassin Brotherhood, while Rome becomes Ezio's main operating area in Brotherhood.
