Which city is rapper E-40 from?

The story behind the answer

E-40 is from Vallejo, California, a city in the northeastern part of the San Francisco Bay Area. Born Earl Tywone Stevens, he built his musical identity around the Bay Area and became one of the region’s best-known rappers.

Stevens emerged from Vallejo’s local hip-hop scene with his family-connected group The Click and later founded Sick Wid It Records. His independent work helped develop the sound later associated with Bay Area rap and hyphy. His 1995 album In a Major Way expanded his audience beyond Northern California.

A common mix-up comes from treating the entire Bay Area as one city. E-40 has strong connections to Oakland and San Francisco through collaborations and regional music culture, but his birthplace and hometown association are Vallejo. Vallejo is roughly 30 miles northeast of San Francisco and is part of the broader Bay Area, not a synonym for either neighboring city.
