J.K. Rowling is credited with completing Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows in Edinburgh.
The seventh and final Harry Potter novel was published on 21 July 2007. Its story follows Harry, Ron, and Hermione as they search for Horcruxes and prepare for the final confrontation with Voldemort.
Rowling famously signed a bust in the Balmoral Hotel in Edinburgh after finishing the manuscript. The hotel has since become associated with the completion of the series, although Rowling wrote books and sections of books in many places during the long publishing process.
Edinburgh is also important in Rowling’s biography because she lived there for many years. The city’s connection is sometimes overstated as though every Harry Potter scene was written there, but the precise claim is that she completed the final book there.
