Tokyo is home to Japan's Tokyo Stock Exchange.

The exchange was established in 1878 as the Tokyo Kabushiki Torihikijo, or Tokyo Stock Exchange. It became part of Japan Exchange Group in 2013, following the merger of the Tokyo Stock Exchange and Osaka Securities Exchange.

The Tokyo Stock Exchange is Japan's largest securities market and one of the world's major exchanges. Its principal market divisions have changed over time; in 2022, it reorganized its equities market into Prime, Standard, and Growth segments. These divisions are designed to distinguish companies by listing requirements and investor profile.

The exchange is located in the Nihombashi district of Tokyo. Osaka remains an important Japanese financial center and was historically home to a separate securities exchange, but it is not the city named in the Tokyo Stock Exchange's title. Japan Exchange Group also operates Osaka Exchange, which is especially associated with derivatives.
