Which city is home to Augusta National Golf Club?

The story behind the answer

“Which city is home to Augusta National Golf Club?” The answer is Augusta, Georgia.

Augusta National Golf Club is located in Augusta, in the eastern part of Georgia near the Savannah River. The private club is internationally known as the permanent host of the Masters Tournament, one of professional golf’s four men’s major championships.

The club was founded by golfer Bobby Jones and businessman Clifford Roberts. Architect Alister MacKenzie designed the course with Jones, and it opened for play in 1932 on the site of the former Fruitlands nursery. The first Masters Tournament was held there in 1934.

A common mix-up is Atlanta, Georgia’s capital and largest major city, which lies roughly two hours away by road. Macon and Savannah are also Georgia cities, but neither is home to Augusta National. The club’s address and the tournament’s familiar nickname both point to Augusta.
