New York City hosts New York Fashion Week, the United States’ best-known seasonal fashion event.
New York Fashion Week is one of the four major international fashion weeks. It presents American and international labels through runway shows, presentations, appointments and other industry events across the city.
The modern event developed from the organized press-week system created in 1943, when Eleanor Lambert established Press Week to draw attention to American designers during wartime travel restrictions. The event later became known as New York Fashion Week.
New York Fashion Week has never been limited to one permanent venue. Its locations have changed over time, including Bryant Park, Lincoln Center and Spring Studios. This moving structure is one reason the city, rather than a single site, is the stable answer.
