Which city hosted the Eurovision Song Contest 1969, held after a four-way tie?

The story behind the answer

Madrid hosted the Eurovision Song Contest 1969, the contest famous for ending in a four-way tie. Spain staged the event after Massiel won the previous year with “La, la, la.”

The 1969 final took place at the Teatro Real on 29 March. Spain, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and France all finished with 18 points, and the rules at the time did not provide a tiebreak procedure. All four countries were therefore declared winners.

Spain’s Salomé won for the host country with “Vivo cantando.” The result caused practical problems for the following contest because several winners would normally have the right to host. Austria did not participate in 1969, and the next contest was ultimately held in Amsterdam.
