Which city hosted the 2008 Summer Olympics?
Answer
Beijing
Answer
Beijing
Beijing hosted the 2008 Summer Olympics.
The Games officially opened on 8 August 2008 in Beijing, China, and ran through 24 August. They were the first Summer Olympics held in China. The opening ceremony took place at the National Stadium, widely nicknamed the Bird’s Nest, while swimming events were held at the National Aquatics Center, known as the Water Cube.
China topped the medal table with 48 gold medals as originally recorded; after later reallocations, official totals changed for some countries and events. The United States won the most medals overall. Michael Phelps became one of the defining athletes of the Games by winning eight gold medals in swimming.
Beijing later became the first city to host both the Summer and Winter Olympics when it staged the Winter Games in 2022. That distinction separates it from Athens, London, and Tokyo, which hosted Summer editions but not both formats.
