Munich hosted the 2003 launch of McDonald’s global “I’m Lovin’ It” campaign.
McDonald’s introduced the campaign in Munich, Germany, as part of a worldwide effort to unify the company’s advertising around one concise, upbeat phrase. The campaign marked a major shift toward a more contemporary and internationally consistent brand voice.
The line was developed through advertising work associated with the German agency Heye & Partner and was adapted for markets around the world. Although wording and executions could differ by country, the central English phrase became a durable part of McDonald’s identity.
The campaign is often remembered mainly for its music. The five-note signature and the vocal recording became prominent elements, but they are separate facts from the launch location. McDonald’s continued using “I’m Lovin’ It” long after the original 2003 rollout, making it one of the company’s longest-running global branding platforms.
