Kingman, Arizona, contains the Route 66 Museum at the former Powerhouse Visitors Center.
The museum is housed in the historic Kingman Powerhouse, an early twentieth-century electrical facility that later became a visitor center and museum. Its exhibits interpret the development of transportation across northern Arizona, including the role of Route 66 in linking Kingman with western and eastern communities.
Kingman was an important service center on the Arizona section of Route 66. The highway connected the city with Oatman to the west and Hackberry, Seligman, and Flagstaff to the east. Historic businesses and signs remain part of the city’s Route 66 identity.
The museum is sometimes confused with the Route 66 museums in Seligman or Williams. Those communities also preserve the highway’s history, but the former Powerhouse building and its museum are in Kingman.
