Nvidia became the third U.S. company to surpass a $3 trillion market capitalization in June 2024.
Nvidia passed the $3 trillion mark on June 5, 2024, after a major rise in its share price. It followed Apple and Microsoft, which had already reached that valuation level. Nvidia’s stock surge was closely linked to demand for graphics processors used in artificial-intelligence computing.
The company began as a specialist in graphics processing units for video games. Its CUDA software platform and data-center hardware later made Nvidia a major supplier for machine-learning and generative-AI systems.
Nvidia’s 10-for-1 stock split took effect in June 2024. A split changes the number of shares and the price per share, but it does not by itself change market capitalization. Investors still value the company by multiplying the adjusted share price by its shares outstanding.
