Shao Jun is an Assassin operating in sixteenth-century China during the Ming dynasty. The game begins after the Chinese Brotherhood has been devastated by the Eight Tigers, a group of powerful eunuchs. Shao Jun returns to China after training with Ezio Auditore and seeks to rebuild the Brotherhood while confronting its enemies.

Chronicles: China was developed by Climax Studios and published by Ubisoft in 2015. Unlike the main three-dimensional entries, it uses a two-and-a-half-dimensional side-scrolling format with a stylized visual presentation. Its gameplay emphasizes stealth, platforming, assassination tools, and movement through historical locations.

The title is the first installment in the Assassin's Creed Chronicles trilogy. Chronicles: India follows Arbaaz Mir, and Chronicles: Russia follows Nikolai Orelov.
