Which character rules Narnia as its White Witch in C.S. Lewis’s first Narnia novel?

The story behind the answer

Jadis is the character who rules Narnia as the White Witch in C.S. Lewis’s first Narnia novel.

In The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, Jadis has imposed a magical winter over Narnia and claims authority as its queen. She is also called the White Witch, a title that emphasizes her icy rule and her opposition to Aslan.

Jadis first appeared in Lewis’s fictional history in The Magician’s Nephew, which was published after The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe but depicts earlier events. In that book she is the Queen of Charn before reaching the newly created world of Narnia.

Readers sometimes confuse Jadis with the Lady of the Green Kirtle, another major female antagonist in the Narnia series. They are separate characters who appear in different books.
