Bilbo Baggins’s parents owned Bag End before him in J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit.

Bag End is the comfortable hobbit-hole in Hobbiton where Bilbo lives at the beginning of the story. It was the home of his parents, Bungo Baggins and Belladonna Took, before it passed to Bilbo. The house reflects both sides of his family: the respectable, orderly Bagginses and the more adventurous Took family.

Bungo built Bag End for Belladonna, according to the background Tolkien supplied for the Baggins family. Bilbo inherits or occupies the residence after his parents’ deaths, and it becomes one of the most recognizable locations in Tolkien’s fiction.

The answer is sometimes mistaken for Bilbo’s uncle, the Old Took, because Belladonna was the Old Took’s daughter. Gandalf also visits Bag End, but he never owns it. After Bilbo, Frodo Baggins becomes its best-known resident.
