Hughie kills the superhero Translucent in Season 1. After The Boys capture Translucent, Frenchie discovers that the Supe’s nearly indestructible skin does not protect his internal organs from trauma.
The group implants C-4 explosives inside Translucent and keeps him imprisoned while trying to learn more about Vought and A-Train. When Translucent escapes, Hughie faces the decision of whether to let him go or detonate the device. Hughie ultimately presses the trigger, killing him in a graphic explosion.
The moment is important because it marks Hughie’s first deliberate kill and a major step in his transformation from an ordinary electronics-shop employee into an active member of the Boys. A common mix-up is crediting Frenchie, who helped devise and place the explosive, or Butcher, who helped capture Translucent. Hughie is the person who detonates it.
