On what date did WildStorm abruptly cancel The Boys comic?

The story behind the answer

WildStorm abruptly canceled The Boys comic on January 24, 2007, ending its initial run with issue #6. The cancellation was especially notable because the series had debuted only a few months earlier, in October 2006.

The comic was written by Garth Ennis and illustrated by Darick Robertson. Its aggressively satirical treatment of superheroes and its anti-superhero tone reportedly made DC Comics, WildStorm’s parent company, uncomfortable. The planned collection of the first six issues was also canceled at the time.

The cancellation did not end the story. Dynamite Entertainment picked up the series in February 2007, and publication resumed in May. Dynamite also collected the original six issues as The Name of the Game. The Boys ultimately ran for 72 issues, concluding in November 2012, so dates such as November 12, 2012 refer to the comic’s later publication history rather than WildStorm’s abrupt cancellation.
