In Arcane, Ella Purnell voices Jinx, the troubled criminal formerly known as Powder.
Jinx is one of the series’ central characters and has a deeply personal connection to Vi, whom she knew as her older sister before their lives were torn apart. Their relationship anchors Arcane’s story as conflict grows between Piltover, the prosperous city above, and Zaun, its oppressed undercity. Purnell performs Jinx’s adult voice, while Mia Sinclair Jenness voices Powder as a child.
The character’s identity can cause confusion because the show presents both names. Powder is her childhood name; after a traumatic chain of events and years of separation from Vi, she becomes Jinx. The transformation is emotional as well as nominal, reflecting the series’ themes of guilt, family, and identity.
Jinx originated as a League of Legends champion before Arcane expanded her backstory. In the game’s lore, she is associated with chaotic weapons, destructive impulses, and a long-running rivalry with Piltover’s enforcer Vi.
