Bayek of Siwa is the main protagonist of Assassin’s Creed Origins.

Bayek is a Medjay from the Egyptian oasis of Siwa. The game follows his investigation into a conspiracy that threatens Egypt during the reign of Ptolemy XIII. His personal search for justice gradually develops into the origin story of the Hidden Ones, the organization that later becomes the Assassin Brotherhood.

Bayek’s wife, Aya of Alexandria, is also a major character and an important participant in the formation of the Hidden Ones. Because Aya has substantial playable sequences and historical significance, some summaries mistakenly treat her as the sole protagonist; Bayek remains the game’s primary player character.

Origins was designed as a foundational story for the series’ mythology. It takes place centuries before the earliest numbered game and explains how the Assassin tradition began in the ancient world.
