Which character is the father of Túrin Turambar in J.R.R. Tolkien’s legendarium?
Answer
Húrin Thalion
Answer
Húrin Thalion
Húrin Thalion is the father of Túrin Turambar in J.R.R. Tolkien’s legendarium. Húrin is a human lord of Dor-lómin and one of the great warriors of the First Age.
During the Battle of Unnumbered Tears, Húrin is captured by Morgoth after defending the retreat of the forces of Men and Elves. Morgoth curses Húrin’s family and forces him to watch the suffering of his children, Túrin and Nienor, from a high seat in Angband.
Túrin’s story is one of Tolkien’s major tragic narratives. Unaware of key parts of his identity and family history, he becomes a warrior and leader under several names, including Turambar. The curse leads to catastrophe for both Túrin and Nienor.
Húrin is sometimes confused with Huor, his younger brother. Both fought in the same great battle, but Huor was killed there, while Húrin survived captivity. Their family connection is important to the later histories of Men in Beleriand.
