Which character is the central protagonist of J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter novels?

The story behind the answer

Harry Potter is the central protagonist of J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter novels.

The series follows Harry from his childhood with the Dursley family to his years at Hogwarts and his eventual confrontation with Lord Voldemort. He learns that he is a wizard shortly before his eleventh birthday and enters the magical community as a student at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

Harry is often described as the “Boy Who Lived” because he survived Voldemort's killing curse as a baby. That event left him with a lightning-shaped scar and created the connection between the two characters that drives the main plot. His closest school friends are Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger.

The name can be confused with the title of the series, but Harry Potter is both the character's full name and the name used for the seven-book sequence. Daniel Radcliffe played Harry in all eight theatrical film adaptations released between 2001 and 2011.
