Frodo Baggins carries the One Ring for most of the quest in J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings.
Frodo inherits the Ring from Bilbo Baggins and leaves the Shire after learning from Gandalf that it is the weapon created by Sauron. At the Council of Elrond, Frodo accepts the task of taking it toward Mordor.
He travels with the Fellowship and later continues with Samwise Gamgee after the group breaks apart. Frodo reaches Mount Doom, but at the final moment he claims the Ring for himself. The Ring is destroyed only after Gollum bites off Frodo’s finger and falls into the fire.
Sam carries the Ring briefly while Frodo is incapacitated, but Frodo remains the principal Ring-bearer during the journey. His endurance and vulnerability are central to the novel’s treatment of power and responsibility.
