J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings follows Frodo Baggins as its principal ring-bearer.
Frodo is a hobbit of the Shire and the nephew and adopted heir of Bilbo Baggins. Bilbo leaves the powerful ring to Frodo, and the wizard Gandalf eventually identifies it as the weapon forged by Sauron. Frodo then accepts the mission of carrying it away from the Shire and ultimately destroying it in Mount Doom.
Frodo travels with the Fellowship of the Ring and later continues the quest with Samwise Gamgee. The burden of carrying the ring exposes him to fear, exhaustion, and its corrupting influence. Sam helps him complete the journey, but Frodo remains the designated ring-bearer for most of the quest.
Bilbo was the ring’s earlier bearer, and Sam briefly carries it at Cirith Ungol. Those facts can cause confusion, but the main ring-bearer and central protagonist of The Lord of the Rings is Frodo Baggins.
