In J.R.R. Tolkien’s mythology, who is Arwen’s father?
Answer
Elrond
Answer
Elrond
Elrond is Arwen’s father in J.R.R. Tolkien’s mythology.
Arwen is the daughter of Elrond and Celebrían, and the granddaughter of Galadriel and Celeborn. She lives in Rivendell, where Elrond is its lord. Her romance with Aragorn is one of the central human-Elvish relationships in The Lord of the Rings, echoing the earlier union of Beren and Lúthien.
Elrond is a Half-elven figure who chose the fate of the Elves, allowing him to remain immortal while Middle-earth’s Elves depart for the West. Arwen faces a related choice: by marrying Aragorn, she accepts the fate of Men and eventually dies as a mortal. Tolkien uses their family history to connect the story’s present events with the ancient legends of the First Age.
Arwen’s mother, Celebrían, is sometimes overlooked because she appears mainly in background history. She left Middle-earth after suffering trauma during a journey, while Arwen remained with Elrond and her brothers, Elladan and Elrohir.
