The dragon defeated by Túrin Turambar in J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Children of Húrin is Glaurung.
Glaurung is the first fully winged? No: he is the first of the great dragons in Tolkien’s mythology and is described as wingless. He serves Morgoth during the First Age and possesses intelligence, speech, and a powerful ability to manipulate those who meet his gaze.
Túrin eventually confronts Glaurung at Cabed-en-Aras. Concealing himself above the ravine, Túrin strikes the dragon from below with his sword, Gurthang. Glaurung’s death does not end Túrin’s tragedy, because the dragon’s deception has already contributed to the disastrous events surrounding Túrin and his family.
Glaurung is distinct from Ancalagon the Black, who is a later and much larger winged dragon associated with the War of Wrath. Scatha is another dragon from Tolkien’s wider history, but neither is Túrin’s adversary in The Children of Húrin.
