Eddie Murphy voices Donkey in the Shrek film series.
Donkey is one of the central characters in the franchise and meets Shrek during the first film. He is talkative, optimistic, and persistent, creating a comic contrast with Shrek’s private and initially gruff personality. Their unlikely friendship becomes one of the series’ main emotional relationships.
Murphy’s performance is notable for its rapid delivery, enthusiastic energy, and extensive improvisational humor. Donkey also becomes romantically involved with Dragon, and their relationship leads to the appearance of the unusual dragon-donkey hybrid children known as the Dronkeys.
The voice role is sometimes confused with Murphy’s role as Mushu in Disney’s Mulan, but Donkey is a DreamWorks character. Mike Myers voices Shrek, while Antonio Banderas voices Puss in Boots.
