Which character does Antony Starr play in The Boys?

The story behind the answer

Antony Starr plays Homelander in The Boys. Homelander is the immensely powerful leader of the Seven and the series’ central superpowered antagonist.

In public, Homelander presents himself as a patriotic, nearly flawless superhero modeled partly on familiar American comic-book icons. Behind that image, he is narcissistic, insecure, manipulative, and violently obsessed with status and public approval. His abilities include flight, heat vision, super strength, enhanced hearing, and near-invulnerability.

Starr is a New Zealand actor, which makes his casting especially notable because Homelander is written and marketed as an American figure. Before The Boys, Starr was widely known for playing dual roles in the New Zealand series Outrageous Fortune and Lucas Hood in Banshee. The character is sometimes confused with Stan Edgar, Black Noir, or The Deep, but Starr’s principal role in the series is Homelander.
