Frodo Baggins carries the One Ring to Mount Doom in J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings. Bilbo Baggins gives Frodo the Ring, and the wizard Gandalf later identifies it as the One Ring created by Sauron. Frodo then accepts the task of taking it to Mordor so it can be destroyed.
The journey begins in the Shire and continues through Rivendell, Moria, Lothlórien, and the dangerous lands east of the Anduin. At the Council of Elrond, Frodo volunteers to bear the Ring, and a Fellowship is formed to protect him. Samwise Gamgee remains his closest companion during the final stages.
Frodo reaches Mount Doom, but the Ring's power overwhelms him at the Cracks of Doom. Gollum bites off Frodo's finger and falls into the fire, destroying the Ring. Thus Frodo is the Ring-bearer who completes the journey, even though the final physical act of destruction happens through Gollum's intervention.
