Which character becomes a boxing coach for at-risk youth?

Dennis “Cutty” Wise becomes a boxing coach for at-risk youth in The Wire.

After leaving the Barksdale drug organization, Cutty searches for a different life. With encouragement from the Deacon and financial help from Avon Barksdale, he helps turn an abandoned building into a community boxing gym in West Baltimore. The gym gives local boys structure, discipline, mentorship, and an alternative to the street economy.

Cutty’s trainees include Justin, Namond Brice, Michael Lee, Randy Wagstaff, and Duquan “Dukie” Weems. His role is more than teaching punches: he tries to instill self-control and responsibility, although the show also portrays his limitations and the difficulty of helping young people facing poverty, violence, unstable homes, and institutional neglect.
