The Chanel handbag that debuted in 2017 and was named after founder Gabrielle Chanel is the Gabrielle.
The Gabrielle bag was introduced by Chanel during the house’s Spring–Summer 2017 collection. Its name refers to Gabrielle Chanel, the designer and founder better known as Coco Chanel. The design combines a flexible, curved base with a more structured upper section, giving it a shape intended to follow the body.
A notable feature is its double strap system, which allows the bag to be carried in several ways. Depending on the model, the straps can be worn together or separately, creating shoulder, crossbody or shorter carrying options. Chanel produced the style in variations including leather, tweed and other house materials.
The Gabrielle is distinct from Chanel’s 2.55 and Classic Flap bags, both of which are associated with the house’s earlier quilted flap-bag tradition. It is also different from the Boy Chanel, introduced in 2011 and named in tribute to Arthur “Boy” Capel.
