Swain’s backstory centers on war, political ambition, and supernatural power. After being defeated and severely injured during the Ionian campaign, he encountered the demon Raum, also called the Demon of Secrets. Swain outmaneuvered and bound the demon, gaining a transformed arm and access to its knowledge. That pact helped him return to power and reshape Noxus.
