Which CEO succeeded Steve Jobs as Apple CEO in 2011?

The story behind the answer

Tim Cook succeeded Steve Jobs as Apple CEO in 2011.

Cook joined Apple in 1998 after working at Compaq and IBM, initially overseeing worldwide operations. He became chief operating officer in 2005 and helped streamline Apple’s global supply chain, manufacturing, and distribution. His operational leadership made him a central partner to Jobs.

When Jobs resigned as CEO on August 24, 2011, Apple’s board named Cook his successor. Jobs became chairman and died on October 5, 2011. A common mix-up is identifying Cook as merely an interim replacement: although he had temporarily handled daily operations during Jobs’s medical leaves, his 2011 appointment was permanent. Phil Schiller, Steve Wozniak, and Jony Ive were influential Apple figures, but none succeeded Jobs as CEO.
