Which CEO served as CEO of YouTube from 2014 to 2023?

The story behind the answer

Susan Wojcicki served as CEO of YouTube from 2014 to 2023. She became CEO in February 2014, succeeding Salar Kamangar, and resigned in February 2023; Neal Mohan succeeded her.

Wojcicki was closely connected to Google before taking the YouTube job. She rented her Menlo Park garage to Larry Page and Sergey Brin in 1998 and became Google’s first marketing manager in 1999. While overseeing Google’s video efforts, she advocated buying YouTube, and Google completed the acquisition for $1.65 billion in stock in 2006.

During her tenure, YouTube expanded far beyond ordinary web video. The platform developed subscription products such as YouTube Premium and YouTube TV, broadened creator monetization, and launched YouTube Shorts in 2020. By 2019, YouTube reported two billion logged-in monthly users.

The main mix-up is confusing the founders with later CEOs: Chad Hurley and Steve Chen co-founded YouTube, while Salar Kamangar led it immediately before Wojcicki.
