Which CEO of Intel took over in 2021?

The story behind the answer

Pat Gelsinger was the Intel CEO who took over in 2021. Intel announced his appointment in January 2021, and he returned as chief executive on February 15, succeeding Bob Swan.

Gelsinger was not an outsider to Intel. He joined the company as a teenager in 1979, became a leading engineer, helped develop the i486, and later served as Intel’s chief technology officer from 2001 to 2009. Before returning, he was CEO of VMware.

At Intel, Gelsinger promoted a recovery centered on manufacturing, process technology, and Intel Foundry Services, including plans for new chip factories and producing chips for outside customers. Andy Grove was an earlier Intel CEO, and Brian Krzanich led the company before Swan. Lisa Su is the CEO of AMD, Intel’s major rival, not Intel’s chief executive. Gelsinger left Intel in December 2024.
