Which CEO has led Microsoft since 2014? Satya Nadella has led Microsoft as its CEO since 2014.

Microsoft announced Nadella as its chief executive on February 4, 2014, succeeding Steve Ballmer. He became the third CEO in Microsoft’s history, after Ballmer and co-founder Bill Gates. Before taking the top job, Nadella led Microsoft’s Cloud and Enterprise group and had spent more than two decades at the company.

His tenure emphasized cloud computing, subscription software, cross-platform services, and collaboration with technologies Microsoft had previously treated as competitors. Azure became a central part of the company’s growth, while products such as Microsoft 365, LinkedIn, GitHub, and gaming expanded Microsoft’s reach beyond Windows and traditional PC software.

Nadella is sometimes confused with Bill Gates because Gates remained influential as a co-founder and technology adviser, or with Steve Ballmer because Ballmer was the preceding CEO. Nadella also became Microsoft’s chairman in 2021, a separate role from chief executive. The question asks about the CEO beginning in 2014, making Nadella the single canonical answer.
