Which CEO founded Zoom Video Communications?

The story behind the answer

Eric Yuan was the CEO who founded Zoom Video Communications. He started the company in 2011 after leaving Cisco, where he had been a vice president of engineering connected with Webex.

Yuan had joined Webex as one of its early employees, and Cisco acquired the company in 2007. At Cisco, Yuan proposed a more modern, smartphone-friendly video-conferencing service, but the idea was not adopted. He left with a group of engineers and founded Saasbee, which later became Zoom.

Zoom launched its software in 2013 after raising early venture funding. Its emphasis on reliable video, simple joining, and cross-platform use helped it stand out in a crowded conferencing market. The company went public in 2019, and usage expanded dramatically during the COVID-19 pandemic as schools, businesses, and families moved online.

Reed Hastings founded Netflix, Daniel Ek co-founded Spotify, and Brian Chesky co-founded Airbnb. Those executives are famous technology leaders, but none founded Zoom.
