Which Catholic saint wrote the Summa Theologiae and taught at the University of Paris?
Answer
Thomas Aquinas
Answer
Thomas Aquinas
Thomas Aquinas was the Catholic saint who wrote the Summa Theologiae and taught at the University of Paris.
Thomas was born around 1225 in the Kingdom of Sicily and joined the Dominican Order despite opposition from his family. He studied under Albertus Magnus and became one of the medieval period’s most influential theologians and philosophers.
The Summa Theologiae is a large systematic work organized around questions of theology, ethics, Christ, and the sacraments. Thomas also wrote the Summa contra Gentiles and numerous commentaries on Aristotle, helping integrate Aristotelian philosophy with Christian theology.
Thomas taught at Paris and other centers, including Naples and the papal court. Pope John XXII canonized him in 1323, and Pope Leo XIII named him a patron of Catholic schools and universities in 1880. Albertus Magnus was his teacher, not the author of the Summa Theologiae.
