Saint Catherine Labouré reported the visions associated with the Miraculous Medal.

Catherine Labouré was a French member of the Daughters of Charity. In 1830, while living in Paris, she reported visions of the Virgin Mary in the chapel of the motherhouse on the Rue du Bac. The visions included an image of Mary standing on a globe and surrounded by the words, “O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee.”

The medal based on this image became known as the Miraculous Medal. It was first struck in 1832, and the devotion spread internationally. Catherine kept her identity as the visionary private for most of her life while continuing her service to elderly people.

She died in 1876 and was canonized by Pope Pius XII in 1947. Catherine Labouré is sometimes confused with Bernadette Soubirous, whose visions at Lourdes occurred later, beginning in 1858.
