Which Catholic saint is known as the Little Flower and wrote Story of a Soul?
Answer
Thérèse of Lisieux
Answer
Thérèse of Lisieux
Thérèse of Lisieux is the Catholic saint known as the Little Flower and the author of Story of a Soul.
Born Thérèse Martin in Alençon, France, in 1873, she entered the Carmelite monastery at Lisieux when she was fifteen. She lived there until her death from tuberculosis in 1897, aged twenty-four.
Her autobiography, commonly published in English as Story of a Soul, describes what she called her “little way” of seeking holiness through ordinary acts of love and trust rather than extraordinary achievements. The work became widely influential after her death.
Pope Pius XI canonized Thérèse in 1925 and later proclaimed her a patron saint of missions, despite her never traveling as a missionary. Pope John Paul II named her a Doctor of the Church in 1997, making her one of the youngest people to receive that title.
