Which cathedral in Sweden was the coronation church of Swedish monarchs until 1873 and contains the St George and the Dragon sculpture?

The story behind the answer

Storkyrkan in Stockholm was the coronation church of Swedish monarchs until 1873 and contains the St George and the Dragon sculpture.

Also called Stockholm Cathedral, Storkyrkan stands in Gamla stan, Stockholm’s historic old town. The church’s origins reach back to the medieval period, and its present structure was developed through successive rebuilding and enlargement.

The celebrated sculpture of Saint George fighting the dragon was commissioned after the Battle of Brunkeberg in 1471. It is traditionally associated with Bernt Notke and is one of the most important late-medieval artworks in Sweden.

Storkyrkan hosted royal coronations until the ceremony moved elsewhere after 1873. It is distinct from Uppsala Cathedral, which is Sweden’s largest church and the seat of the archbishop of Uppsala.
