St Paul’s Cathedral in London contains the Whispering Gallery inside its dome.

The gallery circles the interior of the cathedral’s famous dome, designed by Sir Christopher Wren after the Great Fire of London destroyed the previous cathedral in 1666. Its name comes from an acoustic effect: a whisper spoken close to the curved wall can sometimes be heard clearly on the opposite side.

The present cathedral was part of Wren’s rebuilding programme and was completed in the early 18th century. Its dome remains one of London’s defining architectural features, rising above Ludgate Hill in the City of London.

The Whispering Gallery is not the highest viewing level in the building. St Paul’s also has the Stone Gallery and Golden Gallery, which offer higher viewpoints and broad views across central London.
