Which cathedral in Croatia is famous for being built entirely from stone, without mortar or other binding material?

The Cathedral of Saint James in Šibenik was built entirely from stone, without mortar or other binding material.

Construction began in 1431 and continued through the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries. Builders assembled carefully cut limestone slabs and blocks using advanced interlocking techniques. This method allowed the cathedral to be constructed without a conventional supporting framework of brick or timber in the main fabric.

The most important architect was Juraj Dalmatinac, known in Italian as Giorgio da Sebenico. Nikola Firentinac continued the work after Juraj’s death and completed the dome and other major elements. The cathedral’s exterior is also famous for a frieze of 71 sculpted human heads.

The building is a landmark of Dalmatian Renaissance architecture and became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2000. Its stone construction is unusual, but it should not be confused with a claim that every later repair used the same original method.
