Dominica is home to the UNESCO-listed Morne Trois Pitons National Park.
Morne Trois Pitons National Park covers a volcanic landscape in central Dominica, including forests, hot springs, crater lakes, and the Boiling Lake area. UNESCO added the park to the World Heritage List in 1997 because of its outstanding volcanic and ecological features.
The park takes its name from Morne Trois Pitons, a prominent mountain whose name means “mountain of three peaks.” Dominica’s intense rainfall supports exceptionally lush rainforest, making the island one of the Caribbean’s most important destinations for nature tourism.
The park is not on Saint Lucia, although Saint Lucia also has a UNESCO-listed volcanic area at the Pitons. Dominica’s site is distinguished by its combination of active geothermal features and rainforest ecosystems.
