Which Caribbean island is home to the capital, Fort-de-France?
Answer
Martinique
Answer
Martinique
The Caribbean island home to Fort-de-France is Martinique.
Fort-de-France is Martinique’s capital and largest city, located on the island’s west coast along the Bay of Fort-de-France. Martinique is an overseas territorial collectivity of France in the Lesser Antilles, so the euro is used there and French is the official language.
The city developed around a strategic harbour and became the principal administrative and commercial centre of the island. Martinique’s landscape includes beaches, rainforest and volcanic mountains, including Mount Pelée in the north.
Martinique is sometimes mixed up with Guadeloupe, another French Caribbean territory. Both are in the Lesser Antilles, but Guadeloupe’s main city is Basse-Terre, while Martinique’s capital is Fort-de-France.
