Curaçao contains Willemstad, the UNESCO-listed capital of the island and country of Curaçao.
Willemstad developed around a natural harbor called the Schottegat. Its historic districts include Punda, Otrobanda, Pietermaai, and Scharloo. The city is especially recognized for colorful waterfront buildings and the Queen Emma Bridge, a floating pedestrian bridge across St. Anna Bay.
The Historic Area of Willemstad, Inner City and Harbour became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997. Its architecture reflects Dutch colonial planning adapted to a tropical Caribbean setting, with influences from Europe, Africa, and the Americas.
Curaçao is one of the Dutch Caribbean islands known collectively as the ABC islands, alongside Aruba and Bonaire. Willemstad is on Curaçao; Oranjestad is on Aruba and Kralendijk is on Bonaire.
